Goal
The goal of the Père Paul Scholarship for Eastern Christian Studies is to encourage and financially support young scholars in the field of Syriac Studies. Every year, The Hidden Pearl Press awards a modest monetary grant to graduate students who demonstrate excellence in their research. The Hidden Pearl Press will annually announce the names of the students who will receive this gift around September 19 at the The Père Paul Lecture.
Although the scholarship will initially be granted to students in the field of Syriac studies, eventually it will also be awarded to students who busy themselves researching, studying, and promoting any of the Eastern Churches.
Eligibility
Eligible candidates are PhD students or recent PhD graduates who are:
- Enrolled in or recent graduates (within two years) of a PhD Program (or an equivalent program) at an accredited university,
- Working in the field of Syriac Studies,
- And in the writing or revising phase of their dissertations.
Application Process
To apply, please email the following to Armando Elkhoury (elkhoury@thehiddenpearl.press):
- A 500-word letter showing why you should be considered for this grant,
- A 500-word summary of your dissertation, book, or research proposal, including title, a 50-word indication of progress, and an indication concerning how the fellowship year will be spent,
- Name, title, and email of your current dissertation supervisor,
- A curriculum vitae,
- And a letter from your director of graduate studies to signify good standing in the program.

The Hidden Pearl Press is a not-for-profit organization whose goal is to publish books that promote the theology, spirituality, history, and liturgy of the Eastern Churches. In the future, it hopes also to offer full scholarships to graduate students working in Eastern Christian Studies. The Hidden Pearl Press allocates a portion of its financial profits to meet that objective. Its first fruit is the establishment of the Père Paul Scholarship for Eastern Christian Studies.
